Hi, my name is Phillippa Samuel and I am a CBT Therapist and Dramatherapist. I have been in the profession of mental health for over a decade and my journey into therapy began when I was in school and saw that others around me needed some support to help with everyday life stresses. This got me really interested in finding out more about Arts therapies and how they work with those that needed an alternate way of self expression. I have a particular interest with children with autism and was introduced to someone when undertaking my Psychology degre; who helped expand my knowledge further on how to help and support this population of people. Putting two and two together I began studying the Master's of Arts programme in dramatherapy whist working with children with Autism as a behavioural analysis therapist. Being in this profession for ten years, I then wanted to explore other areas of working with others and explored the option to work in CAMHS mental health service in the UK. I was offered a job at the Maudsley in CAMHS initially working in the schools team where I delivered dramatherapy in schools and subsequently then did the 1 year Nursing Studies degree at Kings College, namely the CAMHS Course Pathway. After 1 year, I was then appointed to work as a Psychologist/CAMHS practitioner for the CAMHS neurodevelopmental team for 1 year where I specialised in offering psychological assessments and treatment intervention to children with autism, ADHD and special educational needs/learning disabilities. After that 1 year, I was then on the CAMHS Generic team where I treated severe and enduring disorders using both CBT and dramatherapy before then becoming a student representative for the Child and Young Person's IAPT programme again at Kings College London and also University College London-which was a Post Graduate Diploma.; alongside promoting aspects and elements of collaborative working with senor management to staff in the National Health Service in the UK. After that year, I continued to offer CBT to children, young people and families at another trust in Wales, UK for 1 year and then went onto offering community outreach support to parents with children with autism to help develop communication, language and English skills. I have also been involved in projects where I have been able to offer support in video production which promotes the variety of different ways that families function in the current climate to help support with different ways of managing difficult circumstances using arts therapy and CBT. I am currently offering support to those who have been affected by Co-Vid by teaching English and aspects of psychological well-being to children. I am also co-working with a Solicitor Firm undertaking referrals from those who have been involved in road traffic accidents and have endured other trauma-related experiences. I work with all age ranges from toddlers to the elderly and perform psychological assessments and CBT treatment for disorders mainly anxiety, depression/low mood and PTSD. I hope this has clarified my educational background and work experience and I look forward to meeting you soon.
